Havercake for Captain Tom

Beer lovers of Burley and beyond - we have a special announcement for you!

Yes that's right, Timothy Taylor's legendary Havercake Ale is coming to The Hermit. Only ever produced in strictly limited quantities, and usually only made available to selected pubs outside Taylor's own houses, it's an honour to have been offered the chance to stock this beer.

Havercake Ale dates back to 2002 and was first brewed in honour of the tercentenary celebrations of the 3rd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment, who were colloquially known as the 'Havercake Lads' - a reference to the oatmeal bread cake which was a staple food in the Yorkshire Pennine towns where most of the regiment's members were culled from.

Nowadays the ale is scarcely brewed and when it is, it's usually to honour a significant landmark. On this occasion, it's recognise the achievements of Captain Tom Moore, and Taylor's themselves will donate 10p from every pint sold to the Captain Tom Foundation.

Look out for this hitting the bar around Friday the 5th November.
